CONSERVATIVES OF THE PAST = thrifty fiscal ideologues with careful consideration of issues tempered by knowledge of the facts and possible religious influence on the social impact of said issues. Decisions are made with a quiet, informed and cautious approach factoring long-term ramifications.

TODAY'S CONSERVATIVES = Hypocritical racist bible-thumping ignoramuses allergic to education and book-learning, with a propensity for incestuous origins. Guns (preferably semi-automatic) are used to defend such ideologies, with rancor and personal angst-ridden sexual deviant issues fueling such hypocrisies.

Logic is shunned at all costs.

DID I MENTION HOW MUCH I HATED THE RETHUGLICAN PARTY?

Did I?

Huh?

Did I?

Their recent grandstanding on the stimulus bill is loathsome. The president made it VERY CLEAR that he welcomed suggestions by the Rethugs on how to improve the bill; the Rethuglicans beat their empty pans and made a lot of noise about birth control (non-issue) and the improvement of the National Mall (which I agree was not needed) - but that was it.

They couldn't come up with any other suggestions to improve the bill. I'm not surprised - look at their handling of the economy for the past 15 year. YES, 15 YEARS - the Rethuglicans won control of both houses of Congress in 1992 and lost control as a result of the mid-term elections in 2006.

And two years is not enough time for Democrats to unscrew the mess the blindly ideological and hypocritical Rethuglicans left behind.

Even with that track record the White House and the House Democrats still asked the Rethugs for their input on changes to be made to the Stimulus Bill - and they came up with a few lame suggestions including more tax cuts - the mantra of their party.

But I digress.

In a gesture of bi-partisanship the White House and House Democrats made concessions as per the request of the Rethugs, and sent the revised bill to the floor to be voted on.

And what did the Rethugs do? IGNORE THE BILL and chose to vote against it.

NOW, they are going around bad-mouthing the bill, STILL NOT OFFERING SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT THEY WOULD THINK IS A BETTER AND MORE PRODUCTIVE BILL.

Continue on you current path, my dear Rethugs. You're pissing off a lot of people - NOT just the elected officials - but others who CAN make you pay for your past crimes of ideology.

Those persons you are pissing off sent a clear statement on November 4th on what they are willing to do.

And here's the hint: They are represented by a hallowed document that begins with, "WE THE PEOPLE....."

BYE-BYE ROD!!!!

"BYE BYE ROD
BYE BYE CRAZINESS
HELLO PAT McQUINN
HELL NO I'M NOT GONNA CRY

GOOD-BYE, B-ROD, GOOD-BYE!"

Much speculation has been made nationwide on the reason why the Illinois State Senate voted to impeach Blagojavich, then voted today to remove him from office. Most have wrongly assumed that it was only because of his alleged attempt to sell the senate seat left vacant by President Obama when he assumed office.

WRONG.

That was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Former governor Blago has been frustrating the Illinois legislature since his election to a second term in office in 2006 (of which I am ashamed to confess I played a role in. I will never blindly vote along party lines again when I do not like the opposing party's nominee).

Methinks that the position of governor went to his head and and began to affect his rationale:

- he had signs loudly declaring his name and stature posted over all tollway gates in the metro-Chicago area.
- he used his office as leverage for certain bills such as the recent one passed to help modernize the Chicago Transit Authority.
- he failed repeatedly to show up in Springfield (the capital of Illinois) at critical times of legislature.
- his office in Springfield (the capital of Illinois) was vacant more than occupied.
- he alienated himself from his next-in-line and/or persons in positions that should have close ties with the governor's office such as his lieutenant - Pat Quinn, the state attorney general Lisa Madigan, and Speaker of the House Michael Madigan to name a few.
- he had suspicious dealings with various business men that conflicted with the office of governor.

These are just a few of his "indiscretions" while in office - leading to his enemies to slowly sharpen their knives in anticipation of a time of he would be vulnerable.

And that time came today Blago. And BOY, where those knives sharp!

Illinois - say hello to your new governor Pat Quinn.

Born in 1948 in Hinsdale, Illinois, Quinn attended the local Catholic grade-school St. Isaac Jogues. He graduated in 1967 from the what was then an all-male, Catholic school, Fenwick High School[1] in Oak Park, Illinois. While a student at Fenwick, Quinn was the cross country team captain and sports editor of the school newspaper. Quinn went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in Foreign Service. After taking a few years off from education, he received a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University in 1980.[2]

Quinn is divorced and has two sons, Patrick IV and David, born on April 12, 1983 and December 16, 1984, respectively. Both sons, like their father, competed in scholastic sports specializing in track and field events.[3]

Quinn was briefly a practicing tax attorney prior to entering his career in public office. (Courtesy of Wikipedia)

MOVIE REVIEW: SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

WINNER - 2009 BEST PICTURE OSCAR.

Period.

I know, I know, out of all of the contenders - MILK, The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons, Frost/Nixon, The Reader - I've only seen MILK (twice), but I know an excellent movie when I see it.

Kinda like k
nowing that Health Ledger will win Best Supporting Actor - not because he tragically died at a young age, but because I knew the very day I saw 'The Dark Knight' that his was a performance of a lifetime.

'Slumdog Millionaire' is the story of three kids living in the ghetto of Mumbai (then Bombay) and how they coped daily with the harsh realities of life in one of the poorest slums in the world. The film shows an unfiltered view of how the impoverished in India live, with the rich culture of the second most populous country in the world used as the film's essential supporting actor.

The story is about true love, and the tests of that can be tried on the bonds of family and friendship.

I laughed, I was somber, I marveled, I reflected, I cried.

The film doesn't use flashy special effects, multi-million dollar mega stars, fancy costumes or gadgetry to wow the audience like the rest of the movies in this year's Best Picture category. Critics have said that this movie somehow made it in the category of 'Best Picture' DESPITE the lack of any individual nominations for the 'Slumdog' actors but now I understand why - it's because the essence of the film is born of the work of a talented ensemble, a great screenplay, and against the background of a rich heritage. (Although I personally think that British actor Dev Patel who plays the main role of Jamal in the movie is the performance that stood out.)

If this...no, WHEN this movie wins 'Best Picture' it really will be the 'Slumdog Millionaire' or the Academy Awards.

Run, do not walk, RUN to see this movie.

GOTTA LOVE CHICAGO'S MAYOR RICHARD DALEY

I LOVE this guy! I swear , he has NO filter on his mouth when he is ready to speak his mind - and in frustration he stutters like Elmer Fudd at the audacity of any situation.

Although Mayor Daley has been a fierce supporter of GLBT rights and makes a lot of logical explanations whenever sticky situations arise, his downfall is the (possible) corruption in his administration and the so call 'patronage' staff...a term I never understood.

However, this is not such a sticky point for me as I think a candid politician is as rare as....well....and honest politician.

Anyhoo, Mayor Daley deliver another candid, unfiltered remark today, commenting on today's press conference by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojavich's.

According to CBS2 Chicago:

Responding to questions about Gov. Rod Blagojevich's claims Friday that Democratic lawmakers are trying to oust him so they can raise taxes, Mayor Richard M. Daley said the governor was "cuckoo."
He noted that he has called Blagojevich "cuckoo" once before. The earlier comment came in September, when Blagojevich questioned financial statements by the head of the Chicago Transit Authority.

"I've said 'cuckoo' once. I'll say it again," Daley said.

He chirped another "Cuckoo!" to reporters before leaving his Friday morning news conference.

HE CHIRPED ANOTHER "CUCKOO!' TO REPORTERS BEFORE LEAVING HIS FRIDAY MORNING NEWS CONFERENCE?!

Got to love him....got to love him!!!!!!
