THE TROUBLE WITH LIBERALS.....

Over the past few months I've noticed something with liberals - we've gotten too nice and complacent in our victories.

Think about it: liberals used to be the ones in the 60s and 70s that were rabid fanatics raging against 'the man' and 'the establishment' for issues such as gay rights, rights for minorities, equal rights for women, legalization of pot, etc. Liberals strange fixation with various herbs and experimental lifestyles based on what you ate or how you lived were seen as 'different'. We fought for the right to be listened to - trying to get others to understand our side of the argument BUT accepting their views as a temper against any severe radicals in the group.

During those memorable decades conservatives were those in power who clung to their religion and crosses in fear, trying to protect their 2.5 kids and their houses surrounded by white picket fences while faithfully saving their money in safe havens such as banks and credit unions. Conservatives believed that the government knew what they were doing in protecting the nation and its interests - after all, the Liberal Commies were coming and they already have foot soldiers in the streets! Next thing you know - they'll want to have a Negro holding office in Washington!

Flash forward to the present.

The issues liberals fought for have been enacted and put into law. Civil rights acts have leveled the playing field (legally anyway) for minorities and gays, women are entitled to equal rights, technology and science rules and has changed the way we live, those strange eating habits and lifestyles are seen as healthy and/or environmentally friendly. The nuclear family has changed.

Liberals became the establishment - and in the process we STILL give others the chance to talk in the hopes that we can learn from our differences.

Conservatives are now the rabid protesters - waving crosses and chanting religious verses hypnotically and incoherently against women's rights and gays. They now see all government as evil and INSIST on the marriage between Judea-Christian values and the state in order to combat any social unrest. GOD - preferably white with blond hair and blue eyes - IS THE ANSWER.

Hypocrisy is now their god - cherry-picking bible verses is the preferred method to ram their views down your throat; logic and reason are seen as a weaknesses.

They play dirty - under the guise of 'doing God's work'. After all, "onward Christian soldiers!"

Ya know - liberals need to stop being so 'understanding' and fight back!!!! If they need a cross to burn to get a point across to the conservatives I'm sure there's a HUGE one located in the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas...in fact, why burn the cross only? Trying burning down the entire bloody church while we're at it, I mean, these people are......

*KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!*

(Damn, the Feds are at the door again. Gotta' run.........down to the valley, cross through the river......the dogs are getting close.........!)

LAME GOP RESPONSE BOBY JINDAL....same 'ole, same 'ole tired GOP politricks....

The rebuttal to President Obama's speech tonight by the selected GOP representative was flat, lame, and stuck in ideology.

Governor Bobby Jindal (Louisiana -R) delivered a response that was steeped in the tired Republican rhetoric of tax cuts, no-government-is-best mantra and the (alleged) need for fiscal responsibility.

(A lecture on fiscal responsibility from the party that spawned one of the largest expansion of government and federal deficits in recent history? That's rich....)

He even fell back and used the Republican standby of the 21st century: 9/11 and why we should be terrified of the rest of the world.

He even tried to pawn off the poor response of the Federal government to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 as an excuse to ban government.

TRYING TO BLAME THE PERFORMANCE OF AN ADMINISTRATION UNDER REPUBLICAN CONTROL ON THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION?!

And from who they say is the rising star of the Republican Party?

Ya know, it suddenly occurred to me last night, that Republicans like Bobby Jindal, Michael Steele and so-called conservative Michelle Bernard are trying to be something they're not; I really, REALLY think that they are white-people-wannabes!

They...are....just......trying.....too......hard to emulate something they are not.

And in the process they have lost their identity and what COULD have attracted minorities to the GOP.

In conclusion I must admit that the GOP is really a party that does NOT disappoint - they lived up to their expectations of being the out-of-touch, partisan and divisive party that we KNOW they are.

PRESIDENT OBAMA'S FIRST (UNOFFICIAL STATE-OF-THE-UNION/BUDGET) SPEECH TO BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS

President Barack Obama (D) gave his first (unofficial state-of-the-union/budget) speech to both houses of Congress tonight - and it was a winner on all counts so far.

The president started with a sobering account of the economic crisis BUT did not dwell on the negative. He began to outline a vision of his term in office, outlining his thoughts on issues such as government regulatory reform, fiscal responsibility, the need to lead the world in new technology for energy and other that impact our lives, the need to strengthen our homestead and export American goods, while solidifying the rest of the world to worth WITH us for their strength is our strength.

He touted the need for education of our youth, the need to lead the world in research and development, the need to invest in tomorrow.

He even implored to high-school students that "dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It’s not just quitting on yourself, it’s quitting on your country - and this country needs and values the talents of every American."

He stressed the need to reform health care - making it affordable for ALL Americans.

He reminded those listening that America is a nation built on entrepreneurs and extra-ordinary people. He said that major changes in American policy were born on the backs of adversity - the transcontinental railway during the civil war, the GI Bill after World War II as examples.

President Obama did what he was elected to do - give accountability, inspire hope and leadership to guide the country during a time of dire need and crisis.

And tonight he did such that.

Well done President Obama.

BEST PART OF THE OSCARS - The James Franco/Seth Rogan skit

Although this years Oscar Awards Ceremony was NOT as yawn-inducing as past airings, it did have it moments when it lagged. However, kudos to Hugh Jackman on his first attempt at hosting the Academy Awards show!

One of my favorite parts of the broadcast was the skit done by James Franco and Seth Rogan based on the theme from their collaboration on the stoner movie 'Pineapple Express'.

Of course, the fact that I have a huge, HUGE crush on James Franco has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with my selecting this ditty.....(that smile, that killer Franco smile)......

"BIGGING-UP" CONGRESSWOMAN MAXINE WATERS

Okay, Congresswoman Waters had never been on my radar until late last year. She caught my attention prior to the 2008 general election during a broadcast of 'Real Time with Bill Maher' when a rabid Republican was spouting off some nonsense (as usual) and she slapped him down with a short, to-the-point retort that had the audience on their feet in wild applause.

Since then I have always kept an eye out for her and she has never let me down; not during during recent appearances on 'Meet The Press', and again on 'Real Time with Bill Maher'.

Born in St Louis, MO she attended college in California which she made her permanent residence. She has been in California politics since 1976 - first in the state assembly, then on the national stage representing the 29th congressional district of California since 1991. She was one of the few who voted AGAINST the Iraq War in 2002, and remained a fierce critic of Bush throughout his administration.

A popular representative she has always been re-elected with no less than 70% of the votes from her district in her favor.

Prior to her entry into politics, she was a teacher and a volunteer coordinator in the Head Start program.

Her husband Sydney Williams is a former U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas.

I like her style, her panache, her demeanor: YOU GO MS. WATERS!!!!!

Jamaican dogsled team sets sights on 2009 Yukon Quest

Jamaican DOGSLED TEAM?!

Yup, you read right - it seems there is a fascination with Jamaicans and snow. A bobsled team was obviously NOT enough...oh NOOOOOO.

We had to take it a step further.

And the name of the motion picture for this venture?

How about" FROZEN RUNNINGS - the biting tale of the Jamaican dogsled team..."

First Jamaican Musher In Yukon Quest Sled Dog Finals

The Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile International Sled Dog Race is not a day out with the dogs in the park. This is the toughest 1000 Miles for man and dogs ever! Now tell me what on earth is a Jamaican doing on that icy trek? Well he’s Dog Sledding. Dog what? And what the devil is a musher anyway? Remember last year when I told you the story about Sun Dogs in Jamaica Dog Sled Team: Coolest Sun Dogs On Ice?

Well the ’story come to bump’ as we’d say in Jamaica.

Newton Marshall has now gone down in history as Jamaica’s first musher to make it to the Finals of the 1000 Yukon Quest. Newton was born, raised, and lived all his life in Jamaica. What this man know bout ice? Well, apparently enough to have finished ahead of half of the competitors in the Copper Basin 300 Championship on Monday January 19, 2009. He came in 13th out of 27 mushers with a time of 61hrs and 41mins. Did I mention the snow?

POLITICAL CARTOONS!!!!!

JAMAICAN MP CALLS FOR OUTLAWING LOCAL GLBT ADVOCATE GROUP J-FLAG...AND HE HAS A VALID POINT (?!)

Those sex-crazed Jamaicans are at it again! This time the latest attacks are cumming from Member of Parliament Ernest Smith for the island's south-west constituency in the parish of St Ann's. Smith, in previous remarks made during a presentation in parliament at Gordon House, expressed what has been keeping him awake at nights: man-on-man action:

"I am very concerned at the extent to which homosexual activities seem to have overtaken this country… I am very concerned that homosexuals in Jamaica have become so brazen, they've formed themselves into organisations and are abusive, violent and something that the Ministry of National Security must look into is why is it that so many homosexuals are licensed firearm holders…

There was a report recently which has never been challenged that our security forces, particularly the Jamaican Constabulary Force, have been overrun by homosexuals … there was a front page report in one of our daily newspapers, which has never been challenged."

Although the ruling Jamaica Labour Party has distanced themselves from MP Smith and his remarks and has advised the island's constabulary force not to be distracted from such remarks, MP Smith continued his attacks telling the island's local newspaper The Gleaner:

"They should be outlawed! How can you legitimise an organisation that is formed for the purpose of committing criminal offences?" Smith declared.

Smith told The Gleaner that the group's continued existence, which he argued was illegal, could lead to other persons forming similar illegal organisations, such as paedophiles and ganja smokers' associations.

I HATE TO ADMIT IT BUT THE MAN HAS A VALID POINT.

UGH.

Homosexuality IS ILLEGAL in Jamaica and you (theoretically) can NOT endorse a group that is promoting activities that are still deemed punishable in the law books of the island (although the only solution to removing those laws is to form organizations that will march and protest for the removal of those laws, but such organizations are illegal...it's a perfect 'Catch-22'!)

Those ancient laws about buggery and the such SHOULD BE removed.....and good luck with that!

The bleedin' churches would have a RELIGIOUS MELTDOWN....

FRONTLINE: INSIDE THE MELTDOWN

Tonight, PBS aired the Frontline documentary "Inside the Meltdown": an in depth look at the events that lead to the financial meltdown currently facing the global economy.

This feature examines what happened last year beginning with the events surrounding the takeover of Bear, Stearns in March 2008, following through to the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) Bill, and ending with last month's presidential inauguration and speculation of the future.

This program gave me a better understanding of exactly what problems faced then Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, and the thought process behind the actions taken to save the financial market of the U.S. economy.

I must admit the last thing I expected to feel for Hank Paulson was empathy, but - there it was. A committed capitalist and strong supporter of a free market governed by the moral ethics of CEOs and its' shareholders Paulson was faced to do the unthinkable - oversee the largest government intervention by a federal official in the history of the United States.

One of the things I like about Frontline is their ability to present issues without drama, and I found this documentary to be informative and riveting. The documentary features interviews by persons involved with the events of last year, or those in the financial media who reported all that happened.

POPE BENEDICT XVI - DELUSIONAL AND OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY

Got to hand it to those crazy Roman Catholics - they sure know how to stir up controversies when they're ready!

Good 'ole Pappa Benedict the Sixteenth in that big 'ole Italian castle in Rome filled with antiques and single 'celibate' men in dresses somehow managed to put his red Prada shoe in his mouth - AGAIN.

Now he's endorsed welcoming back to the all-powerful Roman Catholic Empire a previously excommunicated British bishop (ordained without the sanction of the Holy See) WHO BELIEVES THE ENTIRE JEWISH HOLOCAUST OF WORLD WAR II IS A MYTH.

This is a pontiff who was born in NAZI OCCUPIED GERMANY and (supposedly) saw the atrocities of World War II.....I mean, c'mon! Doesn't he have ANY sensitivity on the issue?

- Moslems (and we know how THEY liked to be pissed off)
- Buddhists
- victims of sexual abuse

And let's not forget that he recently - in what I saw as an act of self-gratification of his own perceived "power" - waved his magic scepter and waived (pun intended) the concept of limbo from Catholic doctrine.....one of the many holy and un-debatable long-held traditions of the esteemed and noble church (again, pun intended).
