HEARD ON THE STREET

Facebooking on Ambien is the drunk dialing of the 21st century.

So there you are doin’ what you do, which is takin’ up my time.

I’m getting another call that’s probably more important than yours.

Your chi got me hard.

I can’t help it. I just like squeezing things out of sacs.

No more prescription meds for you—especially not anyone else’s prescription meds.

Treat ’em like motorcycles: Ride ’em hard, put ’em away wet.

I just got hug-raped.

I think I peaked last year.

Napoleon Dynamite was pretty accurate.

Have fun brushing your teeth.

I OD’d on this crappy day.

That’s like telling Hitler to make up with the Jews.

I’d fuck your mittens.

Smells like incense and Pledge.

I would have a complete anxiety attack without a working TV.

Yeah, he said he’s got anal bugs—literally.

I always feel enlightened after a bowel movement.

He’s got maternal instinct, but his mams only come out at night.

I treat myself enough already—mostly with substances.

SHTICK OPERATOR - IL CONGRESSMAN AARON SCHOCK

Blog-sites have been agog recently over the abs and overall physique of the young Republican congressman from the 18th district of Illinois - Representative Aaron Schock.

At 28 years old he is the youngest member of Congress - and also a nice piece of eye candy when compared to his fellow members in the House. He also seems to have the right idea of inclusion of minorities in the GOP could be the future of the party.

However, his appeal is wearing thin quickly as he apparently will say anything to "curry favor" with leaders of the Republican party.

Late this week I had the telly tuned to 'Hardball with Chris Matthews' while packing away groceries, and was absent-mindedly listening as the eternally wired host posed questions to both Rep. Aaron Schock and Rep. Peter King (R) of New York regarding Obama's pick of GOP congressmen to join his cabinet. As I half-listened to the televised patter something Schock said caught me attention, when he stated that "..it comes down to personality and the ability to carry the message forward.....obviously George Bush did a better job than Gore in the 2000 elections...."

Chris Matthews was quick to point out that Bush may have won on a technicality, but Gore handily won the popular vote despite his wooden personality, but Schock continued to regurgitate the same lies that the GOP has been spoon-feeding the public for the past 10 years.

I'm sure that being a "young'un" in politics Schock has a lot to learn but if he continues to operate on fluff and bullshit and not facts I'm not sure I want to be a part of the future he embodies.

(Of course this statement has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that Schock toed the GOP party line and voted against the Matthew Shephard Hate Crimes Act, and does NOT support gay marriage and gays in the military....)

IS PROJECT NATAL FROM MICROSOFT THE DEATH NELL FOR NINTENDO Wii? OR WILL RIVAL SONY PLAYSTATION BEAT THEM BOTH?

Microsoft's announcement of Project Natal their new Xbox 360 full-body motion control device, was a clear challenge to Nintendo's Wii and was the major talk of the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo - or E3 2009. The buzz also focused not only on Microsoft's motion-sensing technology demoed during the announcement, but also on the motion-sensing technology announced by Sony at a seperate press conference. Microsoft’s Project Natal’s major selling point is full-body recognition and the promise of a controller-less game experience, while Sony’s PlayStation Eye-powered motion tech aims to turn a single controller into any virtual item imaginable (i.e. swords, tennis racquets, whips, whiskey bottle, etc.). The announcement from both parties has started a debate on which is better - and which has more weaknesses.

This assessment is obviously impossible to confirm until some impartial testing can be done. What’s perhaps more interesting about this whole ridiculously premature debate about technologies that are still years away from landing in living rooms is that Project Natal certainly does seem designed to out-casual the casual gaming genre Nintendo ushered in with the Wii, while Sony’s approach looks to be more “gamer-oriented,” as one analyst told Gamasutra earlier this week.

Again, it’s far too early to tell what the results will be when Sony and Microsoft eventually release their respective motion-sensing technologies, so for now, it looks like we’ll have to settle for premature potshots and unconfirmed tech assessments.

Lucky us.

Below is a slick video put together by the marketing department of Microsoft showcasing the application of their new technology - yet to be released:

On a personal observation - the Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot with their attacks on Sotomayer

I have been watching in amazement and awe how blatantly out-of-touch the right-wing side of the Republican Party have become. Their comments over the last few months have not only inflamed the liberal left - it has also alienated a lot moderate independent American voters.

Now it seems that the unofficial mouthpieces of the GOP such as Rush, Newt and Cheney - now comically referred to as THE RNC on political talk shows - are out to drive the final nails in the coffin of the GOP - by alienating the largest minority group in the US: the Hispanic population.

Gingrich and other conservatives have dominated the public discussion over the past four days with incendiary allegations about Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor - the first Hispanic person ever to be nominated to the Supreme Court - with attacks on her views on race and her qualifications for the bench.

Gingrich, for example, focused on a 2001 speech in which Sotomayor said: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male." [sic]
Gingrich wrote to followers on his Twitter account: "White man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw."

Limbaugh labeled Sotomayor "a reverse racist" over a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit against a group of white firefighters who sued New Haven, Conn., for alleged discrimination.

Former Bush administration adviser Karl Rove has questioned the intellect of Sotomayor, a graduate of Princeton University and Yale Law School, while Curt Levey of the conservative Committee for Justice argued she was "picked because she's a woman and Hispanic, not because she was the best qualified."

Condemnation on these remarks have come fast and furious from not only the Dems and liberals, but from within the ranks of the GOP themselves. Some moderate members of the GOP - who in recent months have kept quiet on recent comments of those conservative and right wings mouthpieces of the party - are now expressing not only their concern of the impact these remarks have made to the image of the party, but at the alarming rate at which members are leaving the GOP. These moderates and elected GOP officials are now working on damage control by appearing this weekend on the standard political discussion panels on both network and cable television to tone down the rhetoric and rein in the negative comments dominating the newscasts.

I personally witnessed the reaction to these comments as I did laundry at a nearby laundry-mat one evening this week while surrounded by a large number of Hispanic patrons. Not much attention was being made to most of the news items blaring from the TVs in the facility but the minute the topic changed to Judge Sotomayor, most heads turned to listen. There was a lot of clucking and head shaking by the Hispanics as they listened to Brian Williams reporting on the verbal attacks being made by the GOP towards the Hispanic nominee to the Supreme Court, the disgust clearly apparent on their face.

At this rate maybe the cynics are right (pun intended) that the Republican Party is quickly headed into the annals of history as a minority party from the south with as much impact and power as a rabbi preaching at a mosque in Tehran.

And while the remaining members of the GOP anxiously wait for a true leader to guide them with a new vision, the faux-leaders seem to want to continue the damage while shooting themselves and the GOP in the foot.

At this rate - they soon won't have ANYTHING left to stand on.
