The first episode of the eagerly anticipated "RuPaul's Drag Race" aired last night on the GLBT themed channel LOGO. The show centers around nine drag queens from around the nation competing for the title of 'Drag Queen of the World' under the tutorlidge of Her Majesty - Drag Queen Emeritus RuPaul.

The show follows the format of most reality shows with challenges to make 'something from nothing', teamwork with your competitors, peppered with the usual snarkiness, backstabbing, bitchiness, etc.

The winner of this competition will win (amongst other prizes) a 'purse' of $25,000 from MAC Cosmetics.

I must admit I have A TON OF RESPECT AND ADMIRATION for RuPaul. His/Her accomplishments are an inspiration to people of all levels and all races worldwide.

Born RuPaul Andre Charles, he overcame the challenges of being a 6 ft 2 in skinny gay black man - using them as the tools for a successful career as a print and runway model (doing runway work for designer Thierry Mugler at one point), being named the official spokesperson for uber-chic MAC Cosmetics, forging a successful recording career with songs peaking in the top ten on Billboard's dance charts, hosting his/her own TV talk show on VH1, etc.

This show is the latest in his exploits and is actually very entertaining!

Below is Part 1 of the first episode that aired on Monday February 2 on LOGO.
