MAYBE WE SHOUOLD TAKE A PAGE FROM CHINESE JUSTICE?

During the summer of 2008 the world was horrified to learn the extent to which some people would let greed take them.

Over the past few months we've learned that milk and infant formula produced in China was purposely adulterated with the chemical additive melamine (similar in structure to cyanide) in order to increase the protein content of the product, making the product more marketable due to its high protein levels.

This practice resulted in the deaths of at least six children and severe renal failure of thousands of other children. The resulting scandal led to a ban of food imports from China to most of it's trading partners, severely affecting the Chinese agricultural industry.

The World Health Organization said that it was one of the largest food safety events it has had to deal with in recent years. It says the crisis of confidence among Chinese consumers would be hard to overcome

As a result of this incident the Chinese authorities investigated and prosecuted personnel of companies involved, resulting in the arrests and jail term for the chairwoman of one company, and death sentences issued to at least two death penalties sentences for two other involved in the willful sale of melamine for placement in milk products.

I think we should follow the Chinese and prosecute those in the financial industry who orchestrated the current demise of the global financial meltdown, even handing out a few death penalties to financiers who made obscene profits from risky securities.

After all, didn't their sub-prime practice lead to the current situation the world now faces: the loss of trillions of dollars of stock value making pensions and 401K plans worthless - leading to the current despair of the global economy?

The effect of this will be felt for years to come, leading to job loss, homelessness and ever more severe outcomes as Third World economies lose income that could help the less fortunate.

How else can we ensure that this does not happen again?

I say we start with implementing the death penalty for those CEOs who willingly took large compensation with the full knowledge that the company they were overseeing was financially insolvent.

I nominate former Lehman Brothers CEO Richard Fuld as a death penalty test case.........
