I think South Carolina's senator Lindsey Graham (R) has been drinking again......Why?
During an interview this morning on the TODAY show with Meredith Viera Sen. Graham actually AGREED with a lot of the actions the Obama Administration is doing.
HUH?!
A Republican that spoke calmly, thoughtfully, clearly and agreeing - or even defending - some of the policies of the Obama Administration?
SURELY NOT!
But he was. And he did.
Sen. Graham thought the 'Cash for Clunkers' program was a success and thinks that the bill for additional funds for this program should be passed in the Senate as soon as possible. He also wished the success of former President Clinton's visit to North Korea to negotiate the release of the two American journalists being held on espionage charges, and defended the fact that a raise in taxes will be needed in the future to help cover the deficit while at the same time reforming government-run programs that are inefficient...one of the promises made by Candidate Obama during last year's election.
His only reference to any, ANY Republican ideology was a quick reference to examining the role of government in private enterprise, and a concern of where should it start and where should it end.
I think even Meridith Viera was slightly taken aback by the sensible discussion that lacked any Republican partisan political squabbling.
To Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina: WELL DONE!!!! Not because you agreed with some of the Obama Administration's policies, but because you could identify what was working but at the same time express (what I think is a very valid) concern of the role of government in private enterprise.
I'll be keeping my eye on you and hope that this is a lasting trend.
